Happy Birthday Jesus!

It was a blessed Christmas! One of my least stressful to date. And that's mostly due to me coming to grips in November with the fact that we weren't going to be able to do much in the way of gifting, and that i wasn't going to have time to finish knitting the sweater and have time to knit any other gifts. so i finished the sweater for Doug with a week till Christmas, and simply used the extra time to appreciate the reason for the season! It was wonderful!

I gave it to him with a card that said: "what does love look like?" (open card) "48,148 stitches! Merry Christmas & We love you!" I am so glad he liked it...and it fit him!

The yarn is 100% alpaca. The pattern is the top down sweater from knitting fool. There was only a little pooling, at the elbows, which sort of looks cool. You can see some color blocking from the different skeins, all said the same dye lot number though,....I didn't worry about it because of the over all pattern in the yarn. Doug didn't seem to mind either, he even modeled it for us Christmas morning!

And I think he'd kill me if he knew I just put that pic on the net!!! tee hee! :)

Other than that, the new year seems to be plugging away already. I am looking forward to the older kids going back to school Monday and giving me some time to work on my etsy!

Wow! time has flown!

well Joseph is 7and a half months now! and as you can tell, i don't have much time to blog. but that is okay. i spend my time doing other wonderful things, like holding an amazing baby boy, and knitting! I am currently working on two projects: 1. a sweater for my fil that is taking for-ev-er!!! but he is worth every stitch. i am actually almost done, only the sleeves to finish...and blocking. and 2. a scarf for a silent auction fundraiser for the lottie moon offering at church. i mostly started the scarf so i would have something to knit when the above stated fil was in the room (and with family gathering around turkeyday, that was a bit of time), but when i decided on the final destination of the scarf i commited to finishing it in time.

but the endever that has taken the biggest chunk of my day today is my etsy! yes, that's right, i now have an etsy! (http://www.mamaorange.etsy.com/) It's so fun! I totaly talk about myself in third person and sound like an honest-to-goodness interesting person (which is something i doubt daily)!!! so if you are an etsyer, go check it out, and give me hearts! I will return the favor!

anyhoo- i will post pics of the finished knits as soon as they are off the needles! hope your thanksgiving was full of thanks! :)

7 weeks go by fast!

Joseph is seven weeks old today! It's looking like he will have brown hair and blue eyes. And according to my new bathroom scale he is about 14 lbs! I'm still unsure where the last 7 weeks have gone! It feels like I just found out I was pregnant; but in the same instant I can't imagine life without him!
I also don't quite feel like myself, I think it's because I haven't even touched a knitting needle in over 2 months!!! Most of my free time has been spent baby-holding (which is great) but i think it's time to grab some yarn!
I ordered some yarn online yesterday, atacama alpaca, for a christmas present for my dad-in-love. hopefuly it will turn out to be a sweater; but with as little knitting as I have done this year, it might only be half a sweater come christmas time! Only time will tell. :)

2lbs. in 2 weeks!!!

That's right! The big boy is getting even bigger! :) Joseph had his two week check up today (even though he's two and a half weeks old) and he weighs 10lbs. 7oz.!!! Thats a full 2 lbs more than his birth weight, in two weeks! His doctor said it was nearly unheard of for babys to gain so much so fast, especialy on a breastmilk only diet. I hope that just means the extra 20lbs I need to lose are coming off fast! :)

Other than being a good eater, Joseph is a happy healthy boy!

I know, I know! I'm really late in posting this, but I've finaly found the time/energy...so here it is:

Joseph Douglas arrived via c-section at 7:55am on April 4th! He was 8lbs 7oz, 21 1/2 inches long. Its been a crazy (almost) two weeks. The pain from the surgery was pretty bad, but the pain meds made me way too sleepy all the time. We got home from the hospital on the saturday after his birth; made it to church the next day (it was easter for crying out loud, I had to go!); and we haven't left the house since (stairs plus new baby equals not many outings)! I started feeling a cold coming on last wednesday, and now we are all praying that baby doesn't come down with RSV! Joseph is a good sleeper (5hr blocks at night!), a great eater, and a little cuddle bug! but my biggest struggle is keeping the over zealous big kids at bay! They could probably 'love him' to death if i didn't keep a constant eye on them. Which doesn't make resting very easy. ...speaking of lack of rest, i think i'm rambling...yup, I'm rambling, it must be time to go. :)

Sorry it's been so long! Life has been crazy. I've been battling anemia, and the adverse effects of iron pills. Plus the nightly torment of swollen hands and feet, sleepless nights, and heartburn that would make a marine cry. You know, all the joys of the third trimester!

I have been knitting though!

I made this lil coin purse for my best friend's birthday. Sad to say, though, that her birthday is in January and the gift bag is still on my kitchen counter! Bad me!

It was a fun lil knit! I came up with the pattern on my own, drawing inspiration from the 'bestfriend bag' from knitty. I'm not sure why all the beads (which were all placed on the exact center stitch) all pull to the left. And I have come to the conclusion that I suck at fabric lining.

I made some baby stuff too:

I love the fixations yarn!!!! One ball made both socks and the hat! I can't wait to try them on him! Look at how cute the top turned out!

Oh, and I finished the neck-lace-stuff for my matilda jane too!

So now Heatherly and I really need to get together for our 'stitch picking party'! :)

Well I got to go get ready for my dr appointment today. I'm praying he'll say I need a c-section tonight! I am sooooo ready to not be pregnant! :) not to mention anxious to hold the lil beeb!

My last SP9 box came in yesterday, and it was bitter-sweet! As always my pal (who I now know is http://www.tuabella.blogspot.com/) sent positivly lovely things, but it was a little sad to see the end of such a great round of SP! I was truly blessed this round!
So to Jenny I say Thanks for being my best ever secret pal!!!!
And just look at the goodies she sent me!

An awesome box full of baby patterns, 3 skeins of alpaca yarn in yummie oranges, note cards, orange-ginger lotion, coconut shower gel (my fav!), and the cutest lil hat and bootie set! I mean seriously, isn't it just the cutest?!? And just this last weekend I made room in the dresser for lil beeb things! Perfect! Although, I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around the idea of another wee one being around here very soon!

I did it!!! I knit socks!!!

Thank you again secret pal for the lovely book and supplies! These are my attempt at the 'class sock' from the Sensational Knitted Socks book, on two size 1 circs, in peaches and cream cotton (had some sitting around, so I thought I would practice with it)!!
I did notice that my gage was different for the second sock, but I don't know why. The second sock is a tad tighter and smaller than the first, but at this point I don't really care! I'm just jazzed that I (lil miss can't-walk-and-chew-gum) was able to knit a pair of socks! WOO HOO!!!
And as an added bonus, I think they will fit the new baby by next winter!

I must be a bad mommy or something....I'm nearly 27 weeks pregnant and have only knit one lil thing for my baby. And it isn't even a big knit, it's a lil hat that took me all of two evenings!

This lil hat is knit with Debbie Bliss Cashmerino superchunky, that was gifted to me by dear Heatherly [she is one of the wonderful people in my life who can embrace my deep love of all things orange, instead of giving me a 'are-you-kidding-me' look]! I didn't have a pattern, just whipped it up off the top of my head. I hope it fits our lil beeb (who is still nameless btw, 'cause his mommy and daddy can't agree on anything...ugh!!!)!

The camel is finished!!!

So last August Heather and I went to Sacramento and took a spinning class, ya know, the kind with drop spindles, not bicycles! It was really fun. And of course we had to do a little stash enhancement afterwards. During our shopping, I came across an ounce of baby camel top (the softest fiber to grace my hands, btw!!!). Now if any of you know my brother Duane, you know that this is a big deal, and I had no choice but to buy the camel down and spin it into my first completed hank of yarn: The lonely little 1oz. of fiber spun out to be 18ish yards of bulky weight camel yarn!

And of course, if you know Duane you'd know that I had no choice in the matter of what this lovely (cashmere soft) camel yarn needed to be knit into: That's right! A camel finger puppet! I was pretty pleased with how everything turned out! The yarn had a lot of thick and thin sections, but over all not bad for my first attempt. And the little camel was such a fun little knit! It only took me an hour to knit it up; as opposed to the several evenings it took me to "master" the spinning of camel fiber! But I think the most exciting part of finishing this lil camel was the fact that now all my Christmas knitting is done! HOORAY!!! Now I am off to finish some birthday knitting and start my first pair of socks! :)

So, in my sp9 questionier I had mentioned that I wanted to learn to knit socks. Now my sp9 has made that a dream come true:

I am now fully stocked with everything I need to knit socks!!! Yippie! I now have the 'Sensational knitted socks' book, koigu sock yarn (in some awesome colors btw), two addi turbos, bamboo dpns, a yarn cutter, my very own 'sheepie' (lets call him george), and just for fun a candle, shower gel, the best chocolate ever, a beautiful hand made card, and stickers!

So now that I am almost done with the Christmas knitting, I will soon be wandering my way thru sock world! I can't wait!! :D

Christmas was good this year! Christmas is always a bit more meaningful for me when I am pregnant. I guess it's just being that much closer to what mary was feeling; and the hormones help too! ;) [BTW: if you haven't heard yet, It's a Boy!!! more pics to come soon]

I was able to spend time with loved ones that I hadn't seen in a while, and my hubbie surprised me with this:

A handmade basket FULL of roving!!!!

Plus, the kids loved the polar bears that I had knit them:

N was quick to name them 'pinkie' and 'toe'!!! He is so creative!!!

Also, I was truly spoilled with a sock-tastic box from my sp9!!! more pics tomorrow I hope. Thank You again pal! You Rock!

It was a good Christmas indeed! I will blog more soon, but now I have a birthday boy to attend to [26 spankin's, yippie!!! ;D]!!

I got a lovely Thanksgiving box from my sp on Wednesday. But was busy with the holiday on Thursday, and shopping on Friday, so here is my Thank You, a tad late! :)

I was spoiled with some 220, and noro (sooooo pretty!), and soup mix, and a gorgeous hand stamped card! [So pal, were those stampin' up! products?!? (I used to be a demonstrator). ]

Oh, and I made that desert yarn I got in the last sp9 package into a 'my so called scarf' for my sister's birthday, but forgot to get a good pic of the scarf! This was the hubbies best try on Thanksgiving, but it doesn't do her, or the scarf, any justice!!!

So here is my washcloth for the sp9 contest number two!
It is a cabled owl washcloth in peaches and cream cotton. I got the pattern off of about.com. It is part of a small stack of owl dishcloths that I am sending my grandma for Christmas (gram, if your reading this, forget what you just read!!!). Its a really crummy pic, but the best I could get before the camera batteries died on me!

I might be getting a knitting machine!!! A friend of mine, who I met while working as a clerk for last June's election, has offered me her knitting machine for free! She hasn't touched it in some time, and feels guilty about it's lack of use.
This has me pretty excited! Especially because Christmas is just around the corner and a two month+ bout of morning sickness has left me with a lot of knitting to do and not much time to do it! My friend said that when she was using the machine regularly she could do a sweater in one day!!! One day people!!! This just might save me!

I have the best SP EVER!!!!

I got a box from my sp9 on Tuesday afternoon, but a family bout of the stomach flu has kept me from posting until now. I was spoiled rotten! Not only was there three balls of 'Desert', a yummy candle, the best chocolate I have ever had, beautiful stitch markers, stickers, lotion, and a cute hand made card, but there, in the box, was my very own copy of 'Stitch 'n Bitch'!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yippie!

And just look at all the beautiful color in this yarn!

This pic doesn't even begin to do it justice! Now...what to make?! I was thinking maybe a 'So called scarf', but I'm not sure how the slight thick and thin effect will change the appearance of the pattern. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

Okay, the camera is finally working!!!

So here is what I got from Jen in package number one:

Lots of goodies! Lotion, fu fu, shower gel, conditioner, nail polish and Party Light candles all in fragrances I am sure I will love, once my hyper-prego-nose calms down! Not to mention 6 skeins of yarn!!! All brands that are new to me, so it will be a fun adventure knitting them up! And 12 inch long dpn's in a plethora of sizes! Now keep in mind that I am still a beginner knitter, but what does one make with foot long dpn's?? I am so curious! :)

Now for the sad part:

Here is what made it to me in package number two:

I know Jen poured her heart into this package, and that is what makes it so hard to report that there was a hole in the envelope and all I received was a fab sweater book, one skein of yellow Luna (with two luna tags), and a lonely red glove! Just think of the other glove, wherever she may be, somewhere between Cali and Canada, ever searching for her mate! Oh, so sad.

I am still blown away by your generosity, Jen! Thank you so much again for everything! And better luck next time with shipping! :)

Another Big surprise came in the mail this week: a box from my long lost SP8! (only a month and a half late, he he). And as with the former boxes from this pal, it was interesting!

There was A LOT of candy...

And a bunch of patterns. Looks like I'm not the only one who grabs the "please take one" patterns from Michaels!

And a bunch of little extra things and a shawl, but blogger is acting up and not letting me put the pics on here all of a sudden. You might be able to see the shawl under all the candy in the above pic. I'll try to get the pics up in a bit, if blogger will let me!

I'm sorry I haven't posted this sooner, but a Big Thank You to Jen from Canada for the lovely gifts! I will have to post pics real soon, but today I just can't get anything to work for me. We sent our beloved Dutch to be with the Lord last night, and I can't seem to think straight or stop crying (for those who might criticize over this reaction, I am pregnant and have cried for much less lately, plus I really loved that rabbit!!!). 1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like? Softness is the main factor when i pick yarn. I love alpaca and silk. But I use anything as long as it's soft. I tend to stay away from red hart and other itchy acrylics.
2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in? I use the 'good to go one skien tote' by eagle, but I am quickly out growing it.
3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced? I have been knitting for a year, and I think I am somewhere between a beginner and intermediate. I taught myself after my hubbie gave me a book for my birthday.
4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? yes, amazon, under jessica baus.
5. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products, etc.) I LOVE coconut!! and anything fruity! I'm pregnant (and having all day sickness) so please nothing too overpowering.
6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy? I am a Chocoholic! I also enjoy peanut butter and chocolate together; and mint chocolates.
7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin? I scrapbook, make my own cards, and do some basic sewing! I also have been playing around with a drop spindle!

19. Is there anything that you collect? I collect china tea cups, and tea pots, candles, picture frames, and most anything that is particularly interesting or pretty; my friends say i collect random orange things, but my hubby says i collect half finished craft projects! :)
20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have? I don't have any subscriptions (someday I'll get simply knitting and/or interweave knits). Also would like to try noro silk garden lite and/or noro kureyon's new colors 188, 182 or 175! 21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn? I am interested in short rows and other shaping techniques. I would love to learn how to make socks! And the enterlac scarf is still haunting me.

...that most of my recent posts have been written on Thursdays! This could be a good thing, I may keep it up. I tend to be the type of person who does well with schedules and lists. I am a planner. So if Thursday is my blogging day, so be it! From now on I will make an attempt to blog on Thursdays!

I know, I'm weird.

As for the rest of life, the morning sickness is still here but not as bad. I've only been puking 1-2 times a day rather than 10-15! The queasiness is just as strong and over powering though.
The kids and I have been dealing with head colds for the last week. Not fun, except for the fact that the stuffy nose protected me from the 'smell-stuff-and-puke reflex'!

On the knitted side of things, the Portland sweater has come to a stand still. All of a sudden (1/4 of the way up the first sleeve) I though to myself "hmm, I wonder if the fact that I am not using the recommended yarn or needle size will effect the outcome of this sweater?" I am now sure that it will, and need to find some more info on this subject.
I'm not too worried about it though, because something else happened this week! I remembered that Christmas is coming! What on earth am I doing attempting my first sweater when I have presents to knit!!!??!!! So I started my list of who needs what, trying to remind myself that I have little time and even little-er energy lately. Presents will be small this year, like one skein or less kinda small, both for the formentioned time and energy issues, and due to lack of yarn money. But not all is lost! Thanks to Steve and my Christmas present last year ( upright kitchen aid mixer) the annual baked gifts should be in plentiful supply!

Well, the kids have had long enough of a break from school while I have been typing this, so I must go for now. We must get back to 'Numbers with Button Bear'; but if all goes well, I'll be back on Thursday! :)

Secret Pal!...Where are you???

So, I still don't know who my pal was for sp8 and it is driving me nuts! I don't even care if she sends me anything, I just want to know who she is! After all, I think that is the funnest part of the secret pal process: getting clues to a persons identity over the course of a few months, and then finding out who they are, and if your guesses about that person were correct! :)
Hopefully she will reveal herself soon! She does deserve a special thank you on her blog from me for introducing me to the drop spindle (which I still have yet to blog about, ...maybe tomorrow, if I'm feeling up to it)!

And I'm still out of batteries, so still no pictures of current knitting. But for the sake of putting any old picture up, here are some pics from C&M's wedding. I hated the fact that I was the one short/fat bridesmaide! oh well....

There's not much to report in the way of knitting, and still no pics due to lack of batteries. But I did start the portland sweater from the valley yarns cataloge! Due to morning sickness, it is still only an inch and a half long, but started non the less! :) Im using k1c2's angora soft in moss green, and am loving it!
Oh! and I sent off my final package for sp8 (morning sickness also delayed that timeline!) And I signed up for sp9! Hopefully I will be feeling better this fall, so as to not delay the sp9 deadlines! :)

It already has me all worked up to the point of sickness! And I still have a minimum of seven months to go on it! That's right, I'm having another baby! :)
I've been too sick this far to really get excited, but I'm praying that the curse of morning (*all day*) sickness will fade soon!

I have got some actual knitting done in the last few weeks, but yet to have pictures (blasted batteries!). Hopfully that will change someday soon :) right now I think I need to go upchuck some more, blah!

The prize for the team who brought the most pennies for the VBS offering was 3 of them got to cut my hair! Yup! Three 10-12 year old boys got to cut 14 inches of my hair off!!! And of course, with Gods infinant humor, it was the 3 most roudy boys in VBS! :( But they followed the rules and did a good job! :) The total offering was over $260! which is going to support the migrant workers VBS in yuba city!

It is VBS week here (Vacation Bible School) , so I am short on time to blogg, but here is what I sent my sp8:

I thought the cable needles were soooo cool! I have never seen stright cable needles before!

and here is the bag I made for lil miss Ivie:
From what I heard, she didn't even notice it in the gift bag at her party (there was also a book for her in there) and it almost got thrown away! That really would have made me cry! But luckly, her mom found it last minute... I guess Ivie just isn't a purse girl, oh well.

I won the battle of the computer! The hubbie put windows back on, just for my comfort! (now that's love!) So here are some of the fun pics I mentioned earlier:

It has been all gifts and packages around here lately, well it seems that way at least! I got a package from my aunt filled with all sorts of treasures including these three paper doll books from when i was small!

Oh, to be as fancy as a Victorian Cat!

The pooh books were quite cool because the book itself became the 'stage'!
Also in the box was my old pencil case from kindergarten! It is in much need of a good cleaning, but then I think it will make a great dpn holder! (pics of that soon to come) :) (yes, I know I am a dork)!

Also on the incoming side: I was given some awesome finds by Heatherly! a BEAUTIFULL 'needle holder' (with Orange flowers!) and FUN pattern folders (with Orange stripes!) Thanks Girly! you always find the BESTEST stuff!

On the outgoing side of things: I FINISHED THE BOOTIES!!! HIP HIP HURRAY!!!! :) I hope J&L like them and that they fit baby A! I was so excited to finish my first project that in no way resembled a rectangle!!! :) I encluded with the booties a 'baby shawl' but was so dissappointed with how it turned out, I didn't even take a picture! ....oh well, you can't win them all! :)

Also on the outgoing, I hope to pack/ship my next sp8 box today or tomorrow. I will post pics of that later too!

...till i can start to post regularly. :( the hubbie has switched our computer from windows to linux, and i am not adjusting well. i can't upload pics from my camera and im having trouble with just... re-learning everything! perhaps i can persuade the hubbie to go back to windows! i hope so, i do have soooo much to share! lots of fun pics await!
